What is Pico Laser Treatment & What's It For? - LightSense™

Pico lasers have many useful applications, foremost of which being for laser tattoo removal. Pico laser tattoo removal simply refers to any treatment that uses laser technology with a pulse width measured in picoseconds.

The LightSense™ laser system is a type of picosecond laser, one with an incredibly short pulse width

A picosecond is one trillionth of a second, and pulse width refers to how long the pulse of light is on for.

There are many different types of picosecond laser. When searching for pico lasers for tattoo removal you should aim to find one that is best suited to the unique requirements of your tattoo and skin.

The LightSense™ laser system has been developed for those looking for skin-kind treatments.

What are pico lasers used for?

  • Safe and effective laser tattoo removal
  • Microblading and eyebrow tattoo removal
  • Skin treatments: everything from sun damage to acne scarring

How does a pico laser work?

Picosecond laser tattoo removal works by firing a pulse of light at the tattoo ink deposited in the dermis so that the particles are agitated from their embedded state.

Heat and a photoacoustic effect act on the particles and consequently, they shatter apart into smaller bits. The body’s natural immune system is then able to flush these smaller particles out.

It is crucial that the laser is accurate and works on low-energy. The LightSense™ laser system has been specially designed with a super accurate spot size of 0.4mm so that treatments are as precise as possible, targeting the ink pigment and leaving the skin around the tattoo undamaged.

Studies have shown that a shorter pulse width causes less damage to the skin, which makes a lot of sense, as the pulse of light touches the skin for a shorter amount of time.

The precision of a picosecond laser, added to the fact that it touches the skin for just a short moment, means that it is well suited to microblading and eyebrow tattoo removal.

Melina, Head of Partnerships at NAAMA Studios, explains why the LightSense™ laser system is perfect for such a procedure.

“We can shape according to the tattoo, so the outer area will have very little damage because of how precise we are,” she says.

“This even allows us to treat half eyebrows for clients that want just the tail of the brow.”
